Therapy is a relationship…
Well done for checking me out. Don’t stop now.
One hundred years of research into ‘what works’ has consistently shown that other than your readiness for therapy, the key ingredient will be the strength and quality of the relationship between us.
Barrister turned therapist
I enjoyed representing people in court but I also wanted to understand them better, to help them understand themselves. For me it was the better option, to ‘Teach someone to fish and feed them for life’. Choosing to re-train felt daunting in 2010 but was one of the best decisions of my life. I am an accredited psychotherapist and a professional supervisor.
Therapy
I work with adults and deliver therapy online or outdoors walking in Regent’s Park, along Grand Union Canal and up Primrose Hill. I have Skype, Zoom, etc. for my clients who live further afield in the UK, Kuwait, Malaysia and China.
As well as anxiety and depression, I have worked with addiction, adult survivors of child abuse, adverse childhood experiences, alcohol dependence, bereavement, codependency, employment problems, GSRD & polyamory, prescription drug dependency, self-esteem and trauma.
My approach is strongly influenced by attachment theory.
I advocate ending the over-prescribing of medications like anti-depressants.
I support the right to choose the timing of one’s death.
I believe in the parity of diversities of gender, sexuality and relationship dynamics (GSRD).
Outside of therapy
As a life-long theatre-lover, I was delighted to be recruited in 2019 to perform for the Donmar Warehouse theatre. This led to a masters course in 2021 in Creative Health at UCL. In 2023 I performed at Queen Elisabeth Hall for Filament Theatre in ‘Earth Makes No Sound’, part of the South Bank’s Planet Summer festival and as climate change is now upon us, I contribute free time to Climate Psychologists Alliance, am a legal observer for Green & Black Cross and support Lawyers are Responsible.
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, I’m proudly internationalist with personal connections to Sweden, Ireland, Turkey, Singapore, Pakistan and I’ve worked abroad in Malaysia and Sudan.
If you love Amy, she’ll love you
(That’s Amy, your amygdala) Ask me about her because she’s a fantastic piece of kit.
“I really want to thank you because you are helping me find the pieces of my jigsaw and the picture is beginning to emerge. I have some idea now about why I am who I am (female, aged 70).”

“calm humanitarian approach”
“I found our time with you to be very helpful in a whole number of different ways, both in terms of understanding some of my own issues better, and also - and probably more crucially in this case - gaining a much better understanding of things on my partner's side. I've found your calm humanitarian approach to be extremely helpful, inspiring and reassuring.” (male, aged 35).”
